Corey Michael Weiler

Corey Michael Weiler, 42, of Bath, Michigan, was born January 18, 1984, in Lansing, MI, and died August 15, 2026. A 2002 graduate of Holt High School, Corey went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from MSU.

Corey served his country with honor in the U.S. Army 42nd Infantry Division, completing two tours in Iraq, and later continued his service in the Michigan National Guard. His commitment reflected a steady sense of duty and a willingness to carry responsibility beyond himself. In the years that followed, Corey suffered for a long time from the effects of PTSD after serving his country, a burden whose daily weight can never be fully known by those who loved him.

He spent the majority of his career in the food service industry, working his way up from busser to Manager. Corey took real pride in restaurant work and, through it, built lasting friendships—connections formed through long shifts, shared effort, and the simple decency with which he treated people. A very good cook, he especially enjoyed sharing his culinary creations with his mom so they could compare recipes.

Corey loved music, especially My Chemical Romance, and he was a huge sports fan who loved to cheer on the Lions. He also held his family close and was a stickler for family traditions, bringing people together with a spirited wit—especially as the king of Dirty Mad Libs. Corey’s sense of humor was unmistakable, and his laugh was infectious and easy to identify; those who knew him will remember how naturally he could find, and share, a good laugh. His laugh is one of the things that will be missed most.

Corey is survived by his wife, Amber Cook; parents, Robert and Stephanie DeClercq; siblings, Sean Smith, Jacob DeClercq and Madison DeClercq; grandparents Robert & Karlene Torres; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

A celebration of Corey’s life will be held Saturday, August 29th at noon at his parent’s home (5901 Harper Rd., Holt).
