

Dale Frederick Jones of Lansing, Michigan, age 86, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2012, surrounded by his devoted family. He was born on January 4, 1926 in Dimondale, Michigan, to Ernest and Beulah (Horn) Jones. Dale worked at the Quality Dairy Company for over 20 years, holding several positions from bottle washer to Plant Manager. While there, he met his wife, Shirley, a bookkeeper at the Plant Office. They married in 1946 and lived in Lansing where they raised their family. Dale spent 45 years in the retail grocery business. Many still remember him from the 1960’s at Ridgewood Grocery on Lansing’s south side, and his unbelievable talent for catching shoplifters while he worked at Wrigley’s and Eberhards. He was instrumental in bringing the very first Lotto machine to Lansing at Saveway Market, and eventually retired from Carl’s Markets in Sunfield. Dale was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years, and served as a Deacon. He enjoyed coin collecting and Saturday night dances in his earlier years and later took up woodworking, reading western novels, golf and enjoying time with his grandchildren. He was outgoing, loved and highly regarded by all of his family and friends and will be missed forever and always. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Alfred, Carl and Richard; sister Margaret. Dale is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley; children, David (Lynne) Jones, Cathy (Jerry) Scarborough, Judi Dadd, and Phil (Becky) Jones; grandchildren David, Leanne, Dion, Michelle, Ami, Greg, Jeremy, Josh, Adam, Eric, Jordan and 21 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 1:00pm at the North Westminster Presbyterian Church, 743 N. MLK Blvd, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan Ave, Lansing, on Saturday July 28, from 6:00-8:00pm and on Sunday, July 29, from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the North Westminster Presbyterian Church Building Fund in memory of Dale.
