Damontreal Shackeal Steward, affectionately known to family and friends as "Shack," age 32, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026. A lifelong resident of the community, Shack was a sign of strength, a gentle soul, and a deeply cherished nephew, cousin, and friend.
Born on December 20, 1993, Shack proved to be a fighter from his earliest years. As a youth, he courageously battled and survived brain cancer—a testament to his enduring spirit and resilience. He graduated from Waverly Senior High School with the Class of 2011.
Shack found immense peace in nature, especially while fishing, and truly treasured the time spent creating memories with his loved ones. His warmth and quiet, comforting presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Isis L. Steward, and his devoted grandparents, Willie Janet Bell-Wilson and Willie Wilson.
Shack’s memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his cherished aunt, Jameisha Steward; his uncle, Omarr Steward; and his adored cousins, Omarie Steward and Laila Steward, as well as a host of extended family and dear friends.
Arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend an afternoon by the water or share a laugh with a loved one in Shack’s honor.
