Donald Michael Crego

Donald Michael Crego, lovingly known as "Don," passed away on January 1, 2025, at the age of 65 in Lansing, Michigan. Born on October 1, 1959, in Utica, New York, Don was the cherished son of Charles Ewing Crego and Darryl J. Weirich Crego.

Don attended Eastern High School and later pursued studies at Lansing Community College. Throughout his life, he wore many hats—caregiver, handyman, assistant, and volunteer—always extending a helping hand to those around him. He was known for his compassionate and generous spirit, his easygoing nature, and his deep gratitude for the people and experiences that shaped his life. Don’s infectious smile often accompanied his favorite saying: “It’s a beautiful thing.”

A man of many passions, Don loved the outdoors, music, television, storytelling, history, art, drawing, sports, racing, and collecting treasures. He found joy in celebrating holidays and birthdays, deer hunting seasons, and most of all, spending time with family and friends.

Don is survived by his siblings: Dona J. Flermoen (Wayne) of Charlotte, MI; Cheri L. Crego-Kramer of Dimondale, MI; and Doug M. Crego (Carol) of Holt, MI. He also leaves behind nephews Jacob Flermoen, Michael Flermoen, Richard Leland, and Christopher Leland; nieces Amanda Kramer and Madelyn Crego; sister-in-law Traci Crego; great-nephews Lenyxx, Gauge, and Carter; great-nieces Ivori and Julianna; aunt Barbara Weirich; cousins Debra Marshall and Michael Weirich and their families; as well as dear friends Larry, Tim, Steve, and Ken.

He was predeceased by his grandparents Charles and Bessie Crego and Milton and Ann Weirich; parents Charles Ewing Crego and Darryl J. Weirich Crego; brother Charles E. Crego III; brother-in-law Richard Kramer; niece Angela Ann Flermoen; uncle Richard Weirich; and aunt Theresa Weirich.

Don’s family extends heartfelt thanks to all who offered love and prayers during his journey. As Don always said with a grin, “It’s a beautiful thing.” May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. May God bless you all
