Doris Ann Clark

March 22, 1935 – July 18, 2026 – Lansing, Michigan

Doris Clark passed away July 18, 2026. She was born March 22, 1935, to Marcus and Anna Alt in Sparta, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence Clark; 4 brothers, James, Marvin, Martin and Tom. She is survived by her 2 sons, David (Margaret) Clark and Daniel (Sally) Clark; 2 daughters Dianne (Michael) Bone and Dottie Stevens; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Doris was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church.

After graduating from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School in 1953, Doris began working full-time at the Bissell Corporation. Around that same time, she was building something even more important—a relationship with the love of her life, Lawrence "Larry" Clark. After four years of dating, they were married in 1956. For 50 years Doris was Larry's trusted partner in both life and business. Together, they built a successful family construction company that helped transform the Lansing area, specializing in residential and commercial flatwork, poured walls, site development, and tilt-up concrete buildings. To know Doris was to know kindness, warmth, and hospitality. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone who walked through her door feel like family. Her home was more than a house; it was a gathering place filled with laughter, delicious meals, and love. Family dinners around her table were never just about the food—they were about bringing people together, sharing stories, and creating memories that will live on for generations.

For 25 years, Doris and her husband Larry hosted an annual party at their home that became a tradition so beloved that friends and family planned their vacations around it. Guests came not only for the celebration but for Doris's incredible home cooking.

Doris embraced life with an adventurous heart. She loved to travel and discover new places, enjoyed peaceful days spent fishing, trips to the casino, and found joy in the quiet creativity of sewing, knitting, needlepoint, and scrapbooking. Every stitch she made, every scrapbook page she crafted, preserved memories and reflected the care she poured into everything she did.

She was also an avid reader and a devoted member of her book club and the St. Gerard Prayer Shawl Ministry. Doris had a curious mind and a lifelong love of learning, always eager to discover new stories and share thoughtful conversations with friends.

But above all else, Doris's greatest love was her family. She was a wonderful wife, a devoted mother, and a steadfast source of love, encouragement, and strength. Her family was the center of her world, and everything she did reflected the deep love she carried for those closest to her.

While we grieve the loss of her physical presence, we are deeply grateful for the countless gifts she leaves behind: traditions that will continue, recipes that will be shared, stories that will be retold, and memories that will forever warm our hearts. Every time we gather around a family table, welcome friends into our homes, cast a fishing line, open a good book, or create something with our hands, we will think of Doris.

The measure of a life is not found in the number of years lived but in the love shared and the lives touched. By that measure, Doris lived an extraordinary life. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity, compassion, friendship, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Though she will be profoundly missed, her spirit lives on—in the traditions she created, in the family she loved so dearly, and in the hearts of the many friends whose lives were made brighter simply because Doris was part of them.

May we honor her by loving one another as generously as she did, opening our homes as warmly as she did, and embracing each day with the same adventurous spirit that made Doris so special.

Rest peacefully, Doris. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026 between the hours of 4 PM - 6 PM at Gorsline-Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 West Saginaw Street, Lansing, MI 48917.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 1:30 PM at St Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy., Lansing, MI 48917.

Mrs. Clark will lie in state at the church beginning at 12:30 PM until the Funeral Mass.

Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 2520 W. Willow Street, Lansing, MI 48917.
