Dorothy Louise Crabb Johnston

Dorothy Louise Crabb Johnston, age 94, of Delta Township Michigan died on September 28, 2018. She was born in Ged. Louisiana on October 18, 1923 to Mary (Leach) and Charles Crabb. She grew up in Detroit Michigan with her two younger brothers Clarence Steele Crabb and Charles Temescal Crabb.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years John, her parents, and both of her brothers.

Left to cherish her memories are her children Robert (Debbie), Susan (Gary), James, William (Tracey), her grandchildren Jason (Bethany), Andrew (Karen), Eric (Laura), Jennifer (David), Kyle (Chelsea), Jack (Emily), Katherine (Olivia)(and Katherine’s mother Maurya), Elaine and Megan. Great Grandchildren Madison, Macy, Max, Elijah, Mason, Joseph, Colleena and Claire.

Dorothy graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit in 1942. After WWII she married her childhood sweetheart. John’s military commitments led them to live in Arizona, Texas and Florida for periods of time. They settled back in Detroit and ultimately moved to Lansing where they raised their family.

Dorothy served as Township Clerk for the Charter Township of Lansing from 1979 to 1998, where she was a founding member of the Capitol Area Clerk’s Association, she was nominated for Township Clerk of the Year in 1990 and honored by the Ingham County Women’s Commission for contributions to quality of life in Ingham County in 1989.

Dorothy was always active in her community and volunteered with the St. Lawrence Hospital Auxiliary from 1962 to 1978. During that time she was named St. Lawrence Hospital Volunteer of the Year and served as President of the Auxiliary.

In recent years her volunteer activity included serving as President of the Grand Ledge Garden Club from 2012 – 2014, and serving as the Secretary of the Capital Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America until last year. Ele’s Place also benefited from her desire to serve others in a volunteer capacity. For many years until the age of 90 she delivered Meals on Wheels, sometimes to folks much younger than herself.

Her home was always a welcoming place for friends and family to share a meal or a glass of wine. She loved to entertain and organize dinner parties, where her joy and quick wit would be enjoyed by all. She will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love of her family and friends, and commitment to service and country will live on with all who hold her dear in their hearts.

Visitation is from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 Noon Friday with Services at 12:00 Noon Friday, Oct. 5, at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Dr. Lansing, MI with Pastor Doug Phillips officiating.
