Passed on to be with her Lord and Family, August 8, 2022. Dorothy was born in 1929 to Louis and Mary Carpenter in Flint Michigan. Dorothy's childhood was filled with love and joy playing with her sister, Fern(Fred) Caldwell,
brothers, Thomas(Beverly) and Louis(Connie) Carpenter. She liked to recall stories of playing with polliwogs, sitting in the garden with a salt shaker, and starting a field fire when she decided to warm up soup on a campfire.
Dorothy graduated from Manton High School and then, for employment, moved to Lansing. In her early years she carhopped at Lights Restaurant, and worked in the dietary department at the Ingham County T.B. Sanitarium. Dorothy was an adventurer. It wasn't unusual to see her "tooling around" on her 1948 Indian Motorcycle.
Dorothy met Eugene Ryan while out dancing with friends, and they married in 1953. Dorothy and Gene liked to golf, play euchre, and, of course, dance. However, their proudest accomplishment was raising their four children, Vickie(Doug)Salters, Patricia(Jack)Ryan-Stone, Michael Ryan, and Judy(John)Ryan. In 1958 Dorothy and Gene bought the family a Cottage. Dorothy was very adamant that she was to teach her children to swim. Not only did they swim, but she taught them to ski, roast marshmallows, pick raspberries, and over all, have a fantastic childhood.
After retiring from Ingham Medical Hospital, Dorothy and Gene spent their winters in Punta Gorda Florida. It was there that she re-experienced her joyous childhood by surrounding herself with her sisters, brothers, and friends.
After Gene's passing, Dorothy moved to Farwell where she enjoyed volunteering at the Clare Hospital, playing euchre, and having yard sales.
In later years Dorothy returned to Lansing to be close to her Children, Grandchildren, Monica(Bobby)Cotter, Jennifer(Dan)Pappas, Christopher(Amber) Ryan, and Josh(Karla)Ryan, 8 Great Grandchildren, One Great Great Grandchild.
The Family would like to thank Dorothy's good friend, Beverly, Bickford of West Lansing, and The Care Team Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
If you wish to send a memorial, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Care Team Hospice were close to her heart.
