

Dorothy ?Dottie? Ruth (Stiefel) Kern Lansing, MI Everyone that knew her, loved her. Born to Loy and Mildred Stiefel on December 5, 1933 in Lansing, went to be with her Lord on October 21, 2011. Dottie was 77 years old. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Otto A. Kern; by her cherished daughter, Elaine (William) Sheets; and a son ,Larry (Denise) Kern. She will be dearly missed by her five grandchildren, Michael (Joann) Kern, Dianna (Matthew) Smith, Jason Kern, Derek (Carrie) Sheets, and Morgan (Chris Browne) Sheets who were the joy of her life. Her four adored great-grandchildren, Destiny, Quinton, Izabelle, and Austin, who she loved spending time with. Dottie is also survived by her sister, Lois (Ron) Stanley; and beloved mother-in-law, Frieda Schultz. Dottie graduated from Eastern High School in 1951. She was an active member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was the first woman to be on the church council, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, ?Bethel? bible series student and teacher, member of the Rainbow Circle, helped to direct many Christmas programs, organized a ladies monthly luncheon and started a prayer shawl ministry. She was a secretary in the Oldsmobile Product Engineering Department, Church Secretary for Mayflower Congregational Church, and University Baptist Church. She was a member of the Lansing Child Study Club, loved Michigan State University Sports and her cottage at Upper Silver Lake. Dottie was a role model for her family and friends and touched everyone that she knew in a special way. She will live forever in our hearts. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday October 25, 2011 at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 549 E. Mt. Hope, Lansing with the Rev. James R. Lichtenberger and the Rev. Matthew Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Church one hour prior to the funeral service and at the Tiffany Funeral Home 3232 West Saginaw, Lansing from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Monday October 24, 2011. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Endowment or Memorial Funds. The family is being served by Tiffany Funeral Home.
