OBITUARY
Douglas E. Winnie Jr
February 18, 1946 – October 2, 2013
Douglas E. Winnie, Jr. Lansing, Michigan The heavens are rejoicing in celebration upon the arrival of one of God’s beloved angels. Douglas E. Winnie Jr., born on February 18, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan, was called home to be with our heavenly father on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the age of 67 years old. Douglas was a very thoughtful, persistent, hardworking man who returned to the General Motors offices day after day on his bike, riding over 3 miles just to turn in an application. He continued to do so daily until he finally was hired in the J-Car Fab as a welder in Plant 2 where he remained employed until he retired in 2001 after 36 ½ years of service. One of his fondest memories of work was when he worked for his godmother at the Lansing Gardens in exchange for new clothes before he was 10 years old. Lovingly known as everyones’ favorite uncle, Douglas was also considered as a great father figure to countless others. Douglas is preceded in death by his mother Josephine (Fishburn) Winnie, 2 sisters Sharon Beardsley and Debbie Swanson, his grandmother Alice (Granny) and 4 aunts Violet, Barbara, Alice and Luella. He leaves behind to grieve, his wife of 48 years Maria E. (Gomez), 3 daughters Theresa Marie, Lisa Marie, Dora Marie Winnie, and step daughter Jolanda (Gomez) Burke, 3 sisters Janet Sutphin, Peggy Embry and Ruth Carol West. 10 grandchildren: Adrian Winnie, Jesse Sanchez Jr., Chelsea Winnie Cassandra Sanchez, Juaquin and Jordan Castellano, Liza Gomez, Joshua Burke, Ashley Burke, and Tiffany (Burke) Vidal. 5 great grandchildren: Nevaeh, Ciera, Cameron Winnie, Sergio and Precious Gomez as well as numerous nieces and nephews and life long friends. Visitation will be on October 6th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. (Rosary at 7:30) at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 900 East Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912. Services will be Monday October 7th at 11 a.m. at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 201 W. Miller Rd, Lansing, MI 48911. Arrangements by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel. October 9, 2013
It's the little things, the small, everyday occurrences that you'll remember. The laughs, the stories, the smiles. And even though it seems like you can never recover from your loss, it is these very memories that will help push the pain away and bring back the smiles.
May God be with you all.
