Dwayne Earl Scheidler

Dwayne was born on March 26, 1946 in Coldwater, MI, to Olen and Madge Scheidler. He grew up on a family Centennial Farm in Coldwater where some of his fondest memories were adventures with his sister, brother and cousins. After graduating from Coldwater High School, he attended Michigan State University before joining the United States Army. As a 1st Lieutenant he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Dwayne enjoyed a successful career spanning more than fifty years in personal and commercial insurance, earning the respect and trust of colleagues, clients, and friends.

Dwayne enjoyed many hobbies and activities especially ones where he could spend time with family and friends. Over the years he could often be found enthusiastically cheering on his favorite teams including MSU football, basketball, and hockey; and the Detroit Lions. For more than twenty years, he was an active member of the Tri-County Bicycle Association (TCBA), where he rode his bicycle thousands of miles annually and served in several elected board positions. He also looked forward to deer camp and hunting on the family farm. Whether cycling, gathering around a campfire, or spending time at his Lake Michigan property, Dwayne cherished the outdoors and valued every opportunity to be with family and friends.

Dwayne will be remembered for his infectious laughter, generous heart, unwavering loyalty to family and friends, and adventurous spirit. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through his kindness, service, and friendship.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 26 years Charla Scheidler. His sons Andrew “Andy” Scheidler (Crystal Fisher) and Brian (Heather) Scheidler. His step-sons Joseph “Joe” (Amy) Sims and James “Jay” Sims (Anna Barner). His grandchildren, Elizabeth Kober, Isabelle Scheidler, Corwin Scheidler, Zachary Sims, Dylan Sims, Kaitlyn Sims, and Kelly Sims; and three great-grandchildren. His sister, Sharon Drake (California) and his brother, Harold Scheidler (North Carolina).

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Heart to Heart Hospice of East Lansing and the devoted 4th-floor staff at Burcham Hills Retirement Center for their exceptional care, kindness, and support. They also extend heartfelt thanks to the many family members and friends whose love, friendship, and encouragement sustained Dwayne and his family throughout his journey with PLS.

Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Dwayne’s life at a date and place to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation (Donation - Heart To Heart Hospice Foundation); or Michigan Agri-Business Association Educational Trust Fund (Educational Trust - Michigan Agri-Business Association : Michigan Agri-Business Association) in memory of Dwayne Scheidler.
