Edward Jackson Ludington and Lansing, Michigan Born in Kaunas, Lithuania on February 13, 1923; died in Lansing, Michigan, September 5, 2011. In 1944, Edward fled the advancing Soviet Army with his family. They lived in various displaced persons camps in Germany during and immediately after World War Two, where he met his future wife Aldona Satkute. Edward studied architecture at the Stuttgart Technische Hoch-Schule. He came to Lansing in 1949, with a small suitcase and a few dollars, and very little English. In 1950, he joined Manson & Carver Architects, and later became a principal of Manson, Jackson, and Kane (later MJK) Architects, Engineers, and Planners, retiring as Executive Vice-President. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a past president of the Mid-Michigan Chapter of the AIA. His work included manufacturing and office projects for Oldsmobile and General Motors, schools for many Michigan communities, libraries and churches. He served on the board of Cristo Rey Community Center and provided design work to improve the Cristo Rey facilities. He was a talented and ingenious carpenter, making use of recycled material and found objects to create quirky and beautiful objects and interiors. From his teen-aged years, when he sang in a choral group, he loved classical music and opera and was a longtime supporter of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. The cottage he built in Ludington provided a retirement haven. His wife of 57 years, Aldona, preceded him in death in 2006. Surviving are his son Raymond Jackson of Bloomfield Hills, Daughter Irene (William) Henry of Eagle; granddaughters Leah and Simone Jackson, and nieces and nephews. The Funeral Liturgy will be held 1:30 P.M. Thursday, September 8, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, Lansing with Fr. John Klein presiding. Viewing will be from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M.
