Evan John Hiner
February 18, 1950 – July 19, 2021
Evan John Hiner, 71, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 19, 2021 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was born in St Johns to Stanley and Frances (Sowle) Hiner on February 18, 1950 and graduated from Eastern High School in Lansing, Michigan. Following graduation, Evan enlisted in the Army where he served as a proud member of the 82nd Airborne packing parachutes for the troops. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Evan began a long career at Perfection Bakery (also known as Schafer Bakeries and Aunt Millie’s) in Kalamazoo. Throughout this life, Evan loved camping - the more rustic, the better. He cherished his time spent up north in Michigan, camping and spending time with his family and nature. Evan was a voracious reader. He especially loved science fiction. He also loved to draw and watch car racing, especially Nascar.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Hiner; his mother, Frances (Sowle) Hiner Homer; his stepfather, Richard Homer; and his brother, Kirk Hiner.
Evan will be lovingly remembered by his children, Christina Hiner and Eric (Janice) Hiner; his grandchildren, Taryn, Julian, Sophie, and Avi; his siblings, Gary (Mavis) Hiner, Donnalee (Jim) North, Brent (Beth) Hiner, and David Homer; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 11am at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery in Fowler, Michigan, where Military Honors will be accorded. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 2pm until 4pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave. in Lansing.
