Floramay Irene Wickham - Sabin

Floramay was born August 5, 1944 to Everett and Ruth Wickham. She grew from childhood with her siblings Mary Ellen (Robert) Geyer, Stanley (Nancy) Wickham, George (Joyce) Wickham, Velma June (James) Mauer, Pat (Kent) Sparkia, Richard (Lynne) Wickham, and Jimmy Wickham. She was blessed with several nieces and nephews over the years; Val and Kim Geyer; Don, Dwayne, Doug, and David Wickham, Sarah, Karrie, Jed, Shellie, and Andrew Wickham; Tony, Gail, Becky, Carolyn, Jim and Kenn Mauer, Scott, Jason, and Mike Sparkia, Tye and Chad Wickham. She had three kids; Cindy, Denise, and Jeff.

She was never a fan of the name Flora, and was known affectionately as May. It’s ironic she did not care for the name as it means “flower” in Latin and she loved her floral…from bedspreads and sheets, shower curtains, placemats and tablecloths, to her extensive wardrobe and several pairs of shoes, many were floral print. Following suit, she had several sets of dishes (many floral) and not only were they coordinating with the theme of the home; which changed frequently, she was insistent on using them at any family dinner or function. She had her fine china, really fine china, and “my good dishes”. Despite numerous requests, she refused to use disposable dishes no matter how large the gathering, but she had more than enough coordinating place settings. She was proud of her décor and coordination, and she was good at it. She worked in retail for a while and may have missed her calling, but definitely did not miss a sale. She really did not miss the shoe sales. She was the proud owner of the most extensive wardrobe and shoe collection. She told anyone who asked about her shoes, she owned enough to wear a different pair every day for a year and not wear the same pair twice. Each pair of shoes likely had it’s coordinating outfit or dress and when she and Robert were looking at houses, closets were the top of the must-have list. Not only did she own a lot of shoes, every single pair had some kind of heel and the higher the better. She did not own anything flat and earlier this year when she had to do physical therapy, she was mad at the therapist for telling her she needed flat shoes. She could do anything in heels- ride her bike, run, go to the beach, and even her winter boots and “slippers” were heels. She was fast too, but that is not surprising. She did everything fast, especially driving. She would give Cruella Deville a run for her fur coat yelling “get the lead out” while passing. May was not just classy, sassy, and a bit…smart, she was a true hippie and flower child, she was the life of the party, loved to dance, and share a good drink. She loved camping and spending time with her family. She really loved to say Grace before meals, she loved it so much Grace felt like it took longer to say than it did to cook a holiday dinner. When she lost her voice, she wrote it down for her granddaughter to read at dinners. It took several pages on paper. She was thoughtful though; she prayed for everyone and everything and thanked God for everyone and everything. Her family thanks God for the Fierce, Loving, Opinionated, Resilient, Authentic, Meticulous, Assertive, Young at heart woman who leaves a legacy and several shoes to fill.

May is survived by her Brother Richard Wickham, children Cindy Boerman, Jeff Holford, and Denise Hamilton. Grandkids Randi and Josh Boerman, Autumn (Aaron) Graves, Brooklyn (Logan) McCormick, Chad, Robert, and Olivia Holford, and Great Grandchildren Railyn, Zaida, and Nolan Eingle, Kaylyn, Keegan, Mackenzie, and Hayley Graves, Theo and Rowan McCormick, Zidane Salinas, her former husband and lifelong co-parent and friend Robert Holford, and many extended family and friends.

May was welcomed to Heaven by her Husband Robert Sabin, her Grandson Nicholas Boerman, her Great Grandson Austin Graves, and her parents and several siblings. She is also once again holding her dear cat Oreo.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 11 am to Noon, with a service to follow at Noon at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Home, 900 E Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912. Burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Owosso, MI.
