Gerald "Jay" Truman Knight Jr.

October 24, 1960 – May 22, 2025

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Jay Knight, of Lansing, Michigan, on May 22, 2025, at the age of 64.

Jay was born on October 24, 1960, in Lansing, Michigan, to Gerald and Janice Knight. He grew up in Lansing and graduated from Lansing Catholic Central Highschool in 1979. He worked for General Motors for 39 years. Jay retired in 2020 and spent his remaining years enjoying life with his family.

Preceding him in death was his cherished grandson, Christopher David Knight Jr., whose joyful spirit now walks beside him in heaven.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Verna Knight, and their children, Christopher (Christina) Knight and Tabatha Knight (Lonny Norton), and his five grandchildren, Cryslyn, Tyler, Cody, Crystabelle, and Julia. He will also be dearly missed by his parents Gerald and Janice Knight; six siblings, Sheri (Scott) Kissane, Nancy Knight, Jill Guiffrida, Penny (Frank) Urbina, Steven (Wendy) Knight, and Jennifer (James) Tolbert, and many more extended family members and friends.

Known for his quiet strength and serious demeanor, Jay also had a sharp sense of humor, a kind heart, and a deep commitment to getting things done right. Once you earned his trust, you found a loyal and compassionate friend. He loved family gatherings by the pool, golf, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and cheering on Michigan State Spartans.

We will celebrate his life on May 28, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at New Covenant Christian Church, located at 4415 W. St. Joseph Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917. Please join us afterward for food and fellowship, a time to share stories, laughter, and love for a man who impacted us all. He will be deeply missed. All who knew Jay and the family are welcome.
