Gina Louise Gardner

Gina Louise Gardner, aged 82, passed away on September 15, 2026, in Lansing, MI. Born on February 18, 1944, in Chicago, IL, Gina devoted her life to loving her husband and family well. In her youth, Gina took great pride and joy in showing her horse in the 4H competitions at the Ionia State Fair and riding in the Ionia County Drill Team. She also sang in the choir and performed in high school musicals. Later in life, her focus shifted to tending her beautiful flower gardens, cooking memorable meals, maintaining a lovely home, and being available to care for the needs of her family. Gina was also an avid reader and writer. She perfected the art of cursive handwriting at an early age. Throughout her life, Gina has crafted letters, cards, and notes that she has poured over and now leaves these as gifts of remembrance that will be cherished for years to come.

After graduating from Ionia High School in 1962, Gina continued the Pierson family tradition and attended Michigan State University from 1962-1965. She then applied her skills of beautiful penmanship, shorthand, and organizational abilities, to work as a secretary for the State of Michigan.

Gina married Gary Lee Gardner March 9, 1968. Alongside her husband, Gina enjoyed family vacations to Las Vegas with her brother-in-law (Jim Gardner), “double” cousin by marriage (Bruce Gardner), and other family members. They enjoyed attending shows, playing slots, side trips to Utah, and drives to visit California family. She was also an avid Michigan State University fan and seldom missed a football game.

Gina joins her devout husband of 56 years, Gary Gardner. She leaves behind her sister Kathryn Gaianguest, sister-in-law June Pierson, dedicated brother-in-law Jim Gardner, and two children, Lisa (Mark) Jarsen and Kevin (Lorraine) Gardner. She is also survived by her granddaughter Savannah (Clayton) Henson , great-granddaughter Cailyn Henson, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved whole heartedly.

Preceded in death by her parents Leon and Jeanne Pierson, her brother Ron Pierson, and sister-in-law Janet Gardner.

Favorite bible verse, Psalm 118:24-“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Following the wishes of Gina, no services will be held. Interment will take place at Great Lakes Cemetery next to her loving husband; “Together Forever”. A family gathering and time for remembrance will take place at a future time yet to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, Gina requests that donations be made to a fund set up for her great-granddaughter, Cailyn Haileigh Henson. Contributions to this fund will honor Gina’s legacy and commitment to her family by supporting the aspirations of her beloved great-granddaughter. Gina’s final wishes include sharing these words, “Everyone enjoy life to it’s fullest!”
