Obituary of Helen Lynn Schneiderman
On Tuesday, September 27, 2022 Helen Lynn Schneiderman-Vivian passed away at 65 years old. She was born to Franklin and Marcia Schneiderman in Denver, Colorado in 1957. Helen graduated from Mount Clemens High School where she excelled in swimming, and played violin in the orchestra.. She was a member of the National Honor Society and attended James Madison College at Michigan State University. She graduated with a BA in Political Science as a undergraduate and followed with a Masters Degree in Labor and Industrial Relations. She then worked for the State of Michigan Department of Labor. She retired as Deputy Director of Disability Concerns. Her career allowed her to meet the love of her life, Daniel Vivian. Helen and Dan’s love story began in the 1980’s and they were married in 1995. They enjoyed over three decades of togetherness and explored many beautiful places. Some of their fondest memories were spent in the Upper Peninsula and Traverse City area where they enjoyed Michigan's beautiful lakes and woods. Helen and Dan considered their dogs Picard and Rosie their children so they were included in these great adventures. Helen spent her adult life courageously battling Multiple Sclerosis, never letting this disease define her and continued to excel in multiple areas and hobbies. She enjoyed cooking, listening to NPR, following politics, classical music, theater, reading, card making and crafts. Helen’s career and interests were the catalyst of many friendships and she leaves behind scores of lifelong friends that will miss her greatly. Helen’s caregiver, Tara Hanes, was very special to her. Tara, her husband and children are loved by Helen and Dan and are considered family. Helen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Dan; her siblings, Janet (Kurt), Harold (Edyta), Robert(Pam), and Elizabeth (Jim); her sisters-in-law, Debbie (Tony), Cindy (Max), and Dana; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by all and we will love her forever. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 3:00-6:00 pm Thursday, November 3, 2022 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, Helen's family requests consideration of donations to the Capital Area Humane Society, Michigan Public Radio or Michigan Disability Rights.
