Indranand Sinha, 84, of East Lansing, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2015 in Lansing surrounded by his family. He will be missed by the entire Indian community of greater Lansing as well as by Michigan State University where he was a professor of mathematics for over 40 years.
Dr. Sinha was born in Bihar, India on July 3, 1931 to Krishnanand and Chitra (Thakur) Sinha. Dr. Sinha attended Banaras Hindu University where he received the highest honors with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Mathematics. He then went on to earn a Doctorate in Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Married to Tara (Mishra), his beloved wife of 37 years who preceded him in death, he is survived by his sons, Madan (Anuradha) Sinha and Govind (Jo Ellen) Sinha; his daughter, Punam (Gary) Bush; and granddaughters, Shivani and Neha Sinha.
Dr. Sinha, accomplished in the arts and sciences, was a poet, Sanskrit scholar, published short story writer and yoga master. His gentle smile and warmth touched all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Bharatiya Temple, 955 Haslett Rd, Haslett, MI on Thursday, August 20th at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice in his name.
