I was surprised to find out that Jim died. I worked at the Attorney General's office and handling utility cases for many years. Jim was a true legend at the MPSC. I will always remember my first utility case. Of course it was a natural gas case. When I met Jim before the hearing, he said to me that he knew I would do well--rubbing his bald head that matched my own.

I always respected his extreme integrity and desire to what he believed to be the right result in every case. All of the people who worked for and with him liked Jim very well.

I hope many good memories will sustain you in your grief.

I knew Jim professionally when I was an Assistant Attorney General and he was Director of the Gas Division at the Michigan Public Service Commission. He was a witness in quite a few cases at the MPSC administrative hearings and he competently oversaw the operation of that division and its many employees. What a wonderful public servant the people of Michigan had in James C Woodruff! I also used to enjoy running into Jim at the Lansing Mall on his walks.

Woody, I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your Dad. I enjoyed assisting in the typing of his "Grandpa's Stories - An Irreverent Memoire." I learned so much from his stories and from the Hugh Heward booklet that he gave me. The way your Dad told his life stories, along with his drawings, showed his artistic talent; he could have been another Dr. Seuss. I loved his sense of humor, too. It was a wonderful thing he did to put his stories and memories in writing so that your family will have them to treasure now and in the future. May the wonderful memories of your dad comfort you and your family now and in the days ahead.

Karen and Jim Larry and my deepest condolence at the loss of a long time wonderful man. He was one of the smartest, most enjoyable persons I have known throughout our 60 years of friendship. He accomplished so much during his 95 years writing books, doing World War II biographies of relatives for people, keeping gas utilities in line during his many years at PSC, and just a knowledgeable man willing to help anyone.
