Janet Fay Thayer

Janet Fay Thayer, age 92, passed away in her home of 71 years on Sunday, October 27, 2024. She was born in 1932 in Lansing to Melvin and Bethel Proctor. She graduated from Eastern High School where she displayed her musical talents. She was the bookkeeper for the family business, Thayer's Carpet. Janet worked in Personnel for Oldsmobile, retiring in 1988. Janet joined Pilgrim Congregational Church in 1947 where she served the Children's Closet Ministry for 32 years leading to receiving the Christian Social Services Volunteer of the Year Award in 2013.

Janet cherished all babies, and loved crocheting many beautiful blankets. She had a passion for all things elephant, and sponsored a rescued elephant (Nosey) at an elephant sanctuary.

Surviving are her children, Duane (Mary Jo) Thayer and Denise (Steve) Frederick; grandsons, Benjamin (Allison) Frederick and Samson (Austin West) Frederick; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Vivian Frederick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thayer.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., with visitation from 11:30 am until the time of service. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Pilgrim Congregation UCC.
