Born February 8, 1924, passed away November 27, 2010 at the Tidwell Hospice House in Sarasota, Florida. Jean moved to Sarasota in 1984 with her beloved and devoted husband, John, and a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church until her passing. She served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE during WWII and met and married her Navy pilot, John, and they celebrated 66 years of marriage in September.
Jean was a devoted homemaker who loved her family, cooking large meals, planning holiday dinners both for her husband’s office and family. She was known for being an exceptional baker by her neighbors who appreciated the wonderful apple pies and cookies she made them for their anniversaries and birthdays. Jean volunteered with John for many years helping with their neighborhood association. She loved their walks on Siesta Key Beach with family, took great pride in her yard gardening, was a talented seamstress, an avid reader of crime novels, and played golf in her earlier years.
She is survived by his husband, John R. Doyle; three daughters, Diane (Tom) Lobsiger of Marion, IN, Joanne (Wayne) Sternberg of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Maureen (Jerry Reynolds-deceased) Doyle of Lansing; two sons, James R. (Marti) of Lansing and Larry (Hilda) of La Quinta, CA; sister, Ruth O’Hara of New Smyma Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Francis of Liverpool, NY; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 9, 10:00 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing with the Rev Bernard Reilly, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238 or St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota, FL 34231, in memory of Jean B. Doyle.
