She was born April 22nd, 1934 in Owosso, Michigan, the fourth of seven children born to Frank and Genevieve Spagnuolo.
She graduated from Resurrection High School and worked in her father’s store until her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Paul LaMacchia, in May 1955. Together they worked at their store, Mac’s Pipe and Liquor until they retired in 1994 to Canadian Lakes, Michigan. There they not only enjoyed lake life but traveled extensively both here and abroad.
After Paul's death in 2011 Joanne moved back to Lansing where she became an active member of St Gerard Church. She dedicated her life to serving others through St. Vincent DePaul, Meals on Wheels and the Women’s Honor Guard at the church. She loved to bake and share her cookies with others, both in the neighborhood and church community.
Joanne is survived by four daughters, Virginia Whitman (Dave), Paula LaMacchia, Teresa LaMacchia, and Samantha LaMacchia; three grandsons, David Paul Whitman (Suzanne), Sam Whitman (Kristina), Paul Cavanagh (Hillary); great grandchildren, David, Genevieve, Eleanora, Nick, Kate and Owen; three sisters, Rosemary Spagnuolo, Judi Assiff, Jeanne Spadafore and one brother, Jeff Spagnuolo.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; infant daughter, Rita; her parents; brother, Frank; and sister, Theresa.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Gorsline-Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W Saginaw St, Lansing, MI from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 19, 2024 at St Gerard Church, 4437 W. Willow, Lansing, MI at 10:30 am.
