Joyce Christina McPeck - Szedlak

Joyce Christina (Wightman) McPeck-Szedlak peacefully went to meet her savior surrounded by family on February 9th, 2023. Joyce was born in Lansing, MI where she attended the original Everett school until her graduation in 1952. She then attended Lansing Business University, taking secretarial classes.

Joyce was married to Duane Lee Hastings in 1953. They raised 3 daughters, Christina, Darleen, and Diana in Lansing and the girls also attended Everett schools. Joyce worked for Bud Kouts, Diamond Reo, The state of MI and retired as a medical transcriptionist from Lansing General Hospital in 1996.

Joyce grew up in the Pentecostal Church where she was a member of the P.Y.P.A. Joyce played the accordion and piano and sang in the church choir. She was a strong Christian who taught Sunday school, did volunteer work and supported many worthy causes. Family was her priority and she had a special love for dogs. Joyce cherished every pet she ever owned. Joyce was later married to Joseph Thomas Szedlak in 1988 until his death in 2002.

Joyce is survived by her daughters Christina Lee (Hastings) Green (Wallace), Darleen A. (Hastings) Leyrer and a step-daughter Connie (Szedlak) Bartkowiak (John). Nine grandchildren; Geoffrey Green (JoAnna), Jamie Green-Wiltse (Wade), Christi Leyrer, Adam Leyrer (Helen), Leesa Leyrer, Brain Hastings-Leyrer, Trisha Pasley (Charles), Jessica Clark (Mike), Seth Sheerin and 2 step grandchildren; Mark Snauko (Lori) and Kelly Snauko. 14 great grandchildren and 4 1/2 great, great grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Claud Wightman and Gladys Arbella Wightman, her brothers Fred, Otto, Don, Rollo, and Paul Wightman, her sister Betty Wightman, her daughter Diana (Hastings) Sheerin, and grandson Buddy Pulver.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes - Lansing Chapel, 900 East Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI, 48912, from 5-8PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel at 10:30AM with visitation starting at 10:00AM. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
