Karen Christine Anne Powers

Karen Christine Anne Powers, age 78, daughter of Bob and Eleanor (Pepin) Rice, of Lansing, MI, was born January 30, 1944, in Detroit, MI. She was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Tom, August 7, 2022, in Lansing, MI.

Karen grew up in Lansing, graduating from St. Mary Cathedral High School. She loved her childhood of the 1950’s and reminisced about what a wonderful time it was to grow up.

She was a bookkeeper after high school with GFLC and Ann Arbor Bank. She met the love of her life, Tom Powers, in 1964, and they truly enjoyed their fifty years of marriage, until his passing in 2018. She worked in their business, Tom’s Furniture and Antiques, in Old Town, and part time for many years as a lunch lady in the Waverly School District.

She was a pleasant kind-hearted person of good humor, and a loving mother. She enjoyed many friendships throughout the years and enjoyed monthly luncheons with her high school friends. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, doing puzzles, and bird watching, especially for Cardinals. She was an excellent cook and card player. She loved road trips and sought out lighthouses wherever she went, and cherished the time spent with Tom at their cabin up north.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Thomas A.; her brother Bob Rice; and her parents. She will be greatly missed by her beloved daughter and best friend, Kristen Anne Powers, of Lansing, MI. Karen is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Becky (Guy) Horton of Texas; and Antoinette Rice (Gary) Neubauer, of Florida. Also survived by her nieces, Miko Fossum, and Pam Krieghbaum; Ashleigh (Matt) Gilbert, and Audra Montoya; nephews, Scott Rice, and Josh Rice, who lived with them for several years while growing up. Other survivors include her cousins, Ann Hoerle and family, Rick Perkins and family, and Tom’s dear relatives.

She enjoyed her time on Earth every day, endeavored to make a difference, and had no regrets. She wished to thank everyone who was a part of her life.

Karen was a member of St. Gerard Church. There will be no public services at this time. Arrangements made by Tiffany Funeral Home.
