

Long time Milford resident Kenneth E. Hathaway made his peaceful transition at 5:30 am Saturday, May 29th, at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing, MI. He was 95 years old. Ken grew up in the Detroit metro area, and graduated from Holly High School. He graduated from Michigan State University with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and an MS degree in Secondary Education. Ken is a Veteran of WWII, having served in the Army in the Philippines.
Ken taught Math and Science to children of US Military families in Japan and Germany after the war. He met his wife Ruth, a fellow teacher, while teaching in Germany. Ken and Ruth married in Germany, moved back to the States, then settled in Milford in 1959. Ken taught Physics and Chemistry at Walled Lake Central and Western High Schools, and at Oakland Community College. Upon retirement, Ken and Ruth traveled throughout the world together. In between trips, Ken found enjoyment volunteering for meals on wheels, Boy Scouts, English as a second language, tax instruction, was an active member of Saint Georges Episcopal Church in Milford, and worked part time at Kensington Metro Park.
Ken lived a long, prosperous, and fulfilling Life. Ken is survived by his wife Ruth, daughter Mary Kessler, sons James Hathaway and John Hathaway, grandchildren John Kessler, Laura VanSteenis, Nathan Kessler, Christopher Hathaway, Patrick Hathaway, Erika Hathaway and Alisa Hathaway, and 4 great grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for 11:00 am, July 16, 2016, at Saint Georges Episcopal Church in Milford, MI. A luncheon in the church fellowship hall will follow after the service. Family, friends, acquaintances, and coworkers are welcome and encouraged to attend. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI.
