He was born February 9, 1949, the son of Robert Hafner and Virginia (Johnson) Maher in Blue Island, Illinois.
He was a 1967 graduate of Fremont High School and a 1971 graduate of Olivet College. He received his masters degree from Michigan State University. For 37 years he taught at Charlotte Public Schools.
Kent had a passion for cooking and would swap his recipes with his many friends.
He is survived by his brother; Mark (Katie) Maher, nephews; Peter (Kate) Maher and great niece Lyla, Keely (Patricia) Maher, Charles Maher, and his significant other of 50 years, Bob Bluedorn.
