OBITUARY

Larry Duane Doerr

April 26, 1945February 5, 2021

Larry Duane Doerr, born April 26, 1945 passed away peacefully on February 5, 2021 surrounded by his family. He loved fishing, camping, tinkering with anything he could get his hands on and he could fix almost anything that was broken! He was a true handyman. If you needed anything at all, you knew you could call Larry and he would do whatever he could to help you. He was generous, kind and feisty!

Larry met the love of his life Linda (Morse) Doerr in 1963 and they were married on September 12, 1964. They spent 49 wonderful years together before Linda’s passing in 2014. Together they had 5 children, Larry (Cindi) Doerr, Laurie Thomas, Lowell (Tammy) Doerr, Larene (Andy) Spitzley & Lucas (Taya) Doerr, 11 grand kids and 8 great grand kids.

Larry loved country music and along with his wife Linda created the country music band, Larry and the Legends where he sang and played guitar. Most weekends you could find Larry playing music with any one of his sons whom he taught to play guitar, drums and sing. They will continue the legacy of Larry and the Legends.

Larry’s absence will be felt greatly by his entire family including his fiancée Shari Musser, his brother Walt (Rosie) Doerr and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Walter & Fern Doerr, wife Linda Doerr, son-in-law Herman Thomas, sister Lucella (John) Sigourney, sister Juanita (Gene) Buffington and niece Mary Whited.

A celebration of his life will take place this summer when we can safely gather together.

I knew Larry my entire life. I spent time at his and my sisters home growing up. He was always kind and welcoming.
He played at my graduation party, and my Mom and Dad took me to hear him and Linda play when I was little.
I sat with him and a friend of his in the trailer at Lowells at the family reunion listening to him talk about my sister and missing her so.
He was always there in the back drop behind that video camcorder.
I will miss his warmth and down to earth good nature, and his big hugs.

Suzie and I have several great memories of Larry including the great classic country music that we danced to at the Eagles. His warm smile that reflected a fun loving man who enjoyed a good joke. His camp cooking which I think was some of the best I've ever eatin. He knew I enjoyed the band and made my Friday nites by asking me to join the band for a few tunes Our phone conversations were often a joke fest and then I could ask how to complete a project and Larry had a solution.
Suzie and I will miss our good friend.

I am so sorry to hear about Larry's passing. I got to know Larry from working with him at the Lansing Eagle's. I was one of the bartenders at the Lansing Eagle's. He was a very nice guy and he will be missed.
