Lavonne Marie Brokenshire

We'll never again savor GG's apple pie. We've celebrated our last birthday with Gram's roast beef and potatoes. We've tasted our last piece of mom's rum cake. We've had our last slice of Lavonne's lasagna. The final race for the one remaining leftover pasty in the fridge has been won and it was found behind the glass container of home-brewed iced tea.

Lavonne Marie Brokenshire passed peacefully last week at the age of 86. She was looking forward to eternity with God and joins the love of her life, Arthur; her daughter, Debbie; her best friend, Mary; and countless others who are celebrating her arrival after making it to heaven a little quicker.

There may have been no one else before or after who could as easily trade a paring knife, an apron, and a not-so-quiet night home with her kids and grandkids for an evening gown and a night bumping elbows with a bunch of somebodies at an Inaugural Ball.

She loved being a member of the La Femmes at the 40 et 8. She spent many nights at a round table, splitting a margarita with her friend Nancy, and swapping family stories with everyone else while proudly showing off the variety of Deb's homemade sweatshirts she continued to treasure. She loved the United States Marine Corp and beamed of the multiple generations of her family who proudly served our country.

Those who will miss her love, laughter and kindness include her children - Art, Norm and Mike - and the absolutely perfect number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Lavonne will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel, 900 E Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI 48912.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lavonne's memory may be made to the 40 et 8 Train Fund, 2949 S Waverly Hwy., Lansing, MI 48911.
