Born May 3, 1941, to James and Virginia Stiles of Lansing, Michigan, Lawrence was a graduate of Sexton High School, Class of 1959. He later served with the Michigan National Guard.
Lawrence was employed with Greater Lansing Special Police, owned and operated Stiles Carpet Service, and later retired from Michigan State University.
Lawrence found deep enjoyment in anything to do with vintage cars and trucks. Some of his favorite memories were rooted in that passion: attending car shows, “showing off” his cars, and spending time with his Model A Club friends. A perfect day for him was simple and satisfying—riding in one of his vintage Ford cars on the way to a car show or a trip with fellow enthusiasts. He especially enjoyed working on his cars, driving them, and spending time on his tractor, including mowing the grass. He was a member of the Mid-Michigan Model A Club of Lansing and took particular pride in attending the Ford Celebration.
Music and good food also brought Lawrence pleasure. He enjoyed “Barbara Ann” by the Beach Boys, "Halfway to Paradise" by Daniel O'Donnell, and “Love Me Tender” by Elvis. He never turned down a good prime rib—especially one from Casa Nova or anywhere else that served it well.
Lawrence lived his younger life in Lansing, later moving to Holt and Dimondale, Michigan. He married Barbara Ann Stiles on September 18, 1965. In later years, he shared life with his long-time partner, Carol Manshum, and was, above all, a loving partner in life—steady, caring, and devoted.
Lawrence is survived by his long-time partner, Carol Manshum; his children, Gary Stiles, Shelli Underhill, Jeffery Stiles, and Brian Stiles; his grandchildren, Cassandra Sadler, Victoria Underhill, Dalton Stiles, Courtney Stiles, Rylee Jo Stiles, Traci Stiles, Supreet Stiles, Lawrence Stiles Jr, and Owen Stiles; his great-grandchildren, James Sadler, Talia Sadler, and Aiden Sadler; and his siblings, Douglas Stiles and Sandra Zuker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Stiles; his parents, James and Virginia Stiles; and his brother, Rick Stiles.
The family extends special thanks to Carol Manshum, Shelli Underhill, and Sarah Wylston for giving their time, energy, and love to ensure Larry could remain in his home.
