Leon Bruce Parkinson, age 80, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away on October 4, 2025. Born on November 19, 1944, in Lansing, Leon lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family and country.
A proud graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, Class of 1962, Leon excelled in wrestling and track before answering the call to serve in the United States Marine Corps. His military career spanned over two decades, from 1962 to 1983, during which he held many roles—including drill instructor and master sergeant. He continued to serve in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1992.
Following his military service, Leon worked briefly at General Motors before embarking on a 22-year career with the United States Postal Service as a dedicated letter carrier. In his younger years, Leon enjoyed staying active—golfing, bowling, playing softball, competing in dart leagues, grill master for all the parties and never missing a good game of euchre. In later years, even as his eyesight, hearing, and memory declined, his love for his family remained as strong as ever.
Leon is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Bannon-Parkinson, and his children: Vicky (Dion) Freeman, Thomas Parkinson, and Rebecca (Matthew) Rue. He also leaves behind nine cherished grandchildren: Sydney, Derek, Victor, Alexie, Reece, Connor, Evan, Madison, and Carson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Vivian (Ebright) Parkinson, as well as his brothers, Charles Parkinson and Ronald (Dee) Parkinson.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the compassionate caregivers at The Willows of East Lansing, Brookdale Delta, and Elara Hospice for their support and kindness.
