July 3, 1938August 9, 2019

Mabel “Mae” Martin passed away at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing, MI, on August 9, 2019. She was 81 years old.

Mae was born on July 3, 1938, in Cambridge, Ohio to Leland and Edith (Hill) Colburn. Her family later moved to the Greater Lansing area. She graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1956. She married Robert “Bob” Martin in 1958. In the summer of 1967, they welcomed their only child, Cheri Martin to the world. Mae and Bob remained happily married until his passing in 2000. Mae worked in various secretarial roles for medical offices throughout her career. Following retirement, she continued to work as a caregiver for the elderly, and loved spending time with her family.

Mae and Bob were known to family, and many others, as “Nana and Papa”. They loved each other very much and she missed him sorely after he passed. Bob drove Mae everywhere, so this also meant she had to learn how to navigate, which she never really got used to. Mae’s love for her family was unsurpassed, and it brought her great joy to be involved with raising not only Cheri, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well. Mae was a natural caregiver, and always willing to lend a helping hand. Her final days in the hospital/hospice were tough for her, as she was not used to being on the receiving end of care. Mae was especially known for her love of hot dogs and giving the best hugs :-)

Mae is survived by her granddaughter Courtney Kosloski (Chip); her grandson Cuyler Martin; her brother Fred Colburn; and her great-grandchildren Wade and Rowyn Kosloski, and Mia and Amelia Martin. She is preceded in death by her husband Bob Martin; her daughter Cheri Martin; her sisters Betty, Elma, and Evelyn; and her brothers Milt, Bob, Jim, and Albie.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday, August 16th, at 12:00pm, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan Avenue, Lansing, Michigan, 48912. Visitation will be from 10:00am – 12:00pm on the same date at the same location. Following the funeral service, a procession will head to Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 West Grand River Avenue, Lansing, Michigan, 48906. A chapel service will be conducted at the cemetery.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mae’s life. Memorial donations can be made to Ele’s Place - Capitol Region Branch, 1145 W. Oakland Ave., Lansing, MI 48915 https://www.elesplace.org/get-involved/donate.

There are so many wonderful things that I could share about Nana. I loved sitting next to her at birthday parties, loved her laugh, and loved her hugs. Beautiful inside and out. ❤️
