Marie “Toni” Antoinette Barrett passed away July 5, 2025, at age 71 in Mason, Michigan after a very long and courageous health battle. Toni was born to Al and Sharon (Ward) Singletary in Lansing, Michigan, June 3, 1954. Toni graduated from Sexton High School and went on to marry James (Jim) Barrett. Toni worked for Jiffy Lube, Ingham County Fairgrounds, as well as a in home daycare provider while attending college. Toni went on to earn her degree in accounting from LCC and eventually started her own tax accounting business, specializing in daycare provider’s tax preparation. Toni was eager to assist in crunching numbers and took great pride in her ability to write off expenses. Toni’s desire to help others was apparent, she always had a “mom” joke readily available, complete with poorly delivered punchlines, endless amounts of elaborate tales to tell, or a token of affection such as a slightly used, half melted, unwrapped, lint coated candy freshly recovered from the depths of her pocket. Toni loved music, specifically Elvis Presley, and would not hesitate to initiate her own impromptu dance party, with or without the participation of others or music. Toni’s will power and strength was admirable, most apparent during her long recovery from numerous health issues.
Toni is survived by son, Joshua Barrett; daughter, Suzanne Barrett-Billington; daughter, Jamie (Ron) Seaton; grandchildren, Riahnah Meyers; Ryan Meyers; Joseph Polaris; Chasadie Seaton; Ronald “RJ” Seaton; Great-grandchildren, Bentley Meyers; and Xaviyn Goodman, Sisters, Diane Ross; and Becky Lippencott as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and countless caretakers over the years. Toni is proceeded in death by parents, Al and Sharon Singletary; husband, James “Jim” Barrett; siblings, Cindy Singletary; John Singletary; Al “Butch” Singletary; and son-in-law, Kyle Billington.
Toni was a bright spirit that left a lasting impression on almost every person she encountered and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, housemates, and caretakers. The family would like to thank the numerous caretakers over the years that have loved Toni.
