

Marla was a beautiful singer and enjoyed singing church hymns. She was sweet, kind, thoughtful, loving, funny, selfless and a gentle soul. She loved cooking, trying new foods, attending church, listening to gospel music, helping others, giving abundantly, taking walks, talking on the phone, babysitting children, especially her own grandchildren, and spending time with her family and friends.
Marla was born on February 15, 1955 in Highland Park, Mi to Irving and Ora (Hawkins) Conwell. She attended and graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit, Mi. She grew up and was raised on the westside of Detroit and lived with and cared for her parents. She gave birth to her one and only child a son, Marlin Alexander Conwell on March 9, 1977 and he would be the highlight of her life. She met and fell in love with the love of her life Gregory Folks on Thanksgiving weekend in November of 1981 and their loving relationship continued for 40 years until she was called home to be with the lord. She moved to Lansing, Michigan on April 30th, 1990 to be closer to her relatives and remained here for 32 years. She also attended performing arts and vocal classes at Lansing Community College. Marla greatly admired her mother Ora Conwell and aunt Elizabeth Singleton.
Marla will be dearly missed by and leaves behind the love of her life and long-time companion, Gregory Folks; her son; Marlin (Helena) Conwell; her grandchildren; Amiyah Joyce Conwell and Isaiah Roland Conwell; her brother, Frank Conwell; her nephews, Irving III and Devin Conwell; her nieces, Ashley, Bianca, Brittany, and Blair Conwell; and a host of dearly beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Irving and Ora Conwell, her brother; Irving Conwell Jr, her aunt; Elizabeth (Alfred) Singleton, and her cousins; Patricia Smith, and Camilla Singleton-Dodd.
Marla Elizabeth Conwell, age 67 passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at 4:15pm in Lansing Mi and although she will be greatly missed by so many who were blessed by her presence, it is her strong relationship with God and her belief in her faith that brings her loved ones peace and comfort during this difficult time.
The family would also like to thank and express their deepest and most sincere gratitude to Brighter Horizon Assisted Living for the love, care, and compassion they showed for Marla during her time with them.
The visitation for Marla will be held Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Tiffany Chapel, at 3232 West Saginaw Street, Lansing, MI 48917. The funeral service will occur Friday, July 15, 2022 from 1:00 PM-3:00PM at Gorsline Runciman Tiffany Chapel.
