Martha E. Penning

Martha Elizabeth Penning passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the age of 87. She was born October 29, 1925 in Owosso, MI, the daughter of William (Bill) and Mildred (Beebe) Osburn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Penning, and her twin sister, Mildred Louise Burns. She is survived by her brother-in-law Raymond D. Burns, her daughter and son-in-law Joanne (Tom) Phalp, her grandson Brad Phalp, and many beloved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She loved and cared for all of them. Martha will be remembered as a fun-loving wife, daughter, sister, mom, grandmother, aunt and friend to anyone who met her. She was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church of Lansing, Michigan, an accomplished pianist and taught piano for over 60 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Perry, Mi. Her greatest pleasure was teaching her love of piano, spending time with her family and actively participating in her church.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 11a.m.to 1p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 2200 Lake Lansing Road, Lansing, MI. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place following the funeral service at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Perry, MI. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in her name to Asbury United Methodist Church.
