
CHAMPAGNE, Mary June age 44 of Williamston, MI passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI. She was born on June 30, 1967 in Grand Forks, ND to Msgt Phillip and Edna (Wills) Billings. She married Marc J Champagne on November 25, 2009 in Harveysburgh, OH, and he survives. Mary graduated from Carpinteria (CA) High School in 1985. She received an AS degree in Administration of Justice from Santa Barbara (CA) City College in 1988 and a BS degree in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement from California State University Long Beach in 1991. Mary graduated from the United States Customs Service Academy in 1991. She remained a uniformed customs officer for 21 years until her death. Mary served as a K9 handler at LA International Airport in the early 1990s, while residing in Lakewood, CA. Mary relocated to Burlington, KY in the mid-1990s, where she served as both a passenger and cargo inspector in Cincinnati International Airport. Mary resided in Harveysburgh, OH from 2005 through 2009 while serving as an international cargo inspector at the DHL cargo transfer terminal, and in Farmersville, OH from 2009 through 2011 while again stationed at Cincinnati International Airport. Mary relocated to Williamston, MI in 2011, where she served as an inspector clearing international passengers at both Detroit Metro Airport and Lansing/Capital City Airport. Mary was the recipient of numerous awards for currency, narcotics, and arms seizures. She was also an expert marksman and firearms instructor for the service. In her youth, Mary was active in both sports and masonic service organizations. She held state office in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls as a Grand Representative in 1986. Surviving besides her husband Marc are a son, Jason Fennell of Rohnert Park, CA, her mother, Edna Billings of Santa Maria, CA, three sisters, Debbie Hart of Santa Maria, CA, Jen Wildman of Aptos, CA, and Susie Lamothe of Carlsbad, CA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
