Matthew Mark LaRue

Matt was born on May 9, 1962, in Alma, Michigan, to Richard W. and Joan (Dugan) LaRue, and was the youngest of three boys. He graduated from Midland High School in 1980, attended Delta College, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service at the Collins Road facility as a mail handler for over thirty years. He was well-respected for his dedication, reliability and hard work.

Matt was a true sports enthusiast, following all sports but especially the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Red Wings, major league baseball, and pro football in general. He participated in several fantasy football leagues, and followed rugby and Australian rules football as well.

He was active in many local dart leagues, earning multiple league awards. Matt played baseball for several years in the old Northeast Michigan (NEM) league, and played briefly in the Lansing Men’s Baseball league. He was an avid reader, with primary interest in all sports, current events, and military history.

Matt loved music of all styles, but had a special affinity for Irish music like Altan, and was a frequent visitor to the Ark in Ann Arbor.

Matt is survived by his brothers Michael (Joyce Romar) LaRue and Anthony (Diana) LaRue, as well as a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Andrew Joseph LaRue.

Matt will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be sent to the Capital Area Humane Society, your local VFW hall, or the American Cancer Society.

In keeping with Matt’s wishes, he will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held on September 25, 2026 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home Lansing Chapel.
