May Clarkin was born March 4, 1924 in Jackson, MI. She went to be with our Lord and Savior on April 15th, 2018, with her daughter by her side. She grew up in Holland, MI with her parents, Richard and Anne Plaggemars.
She won many awards throughout Michigan for her public speaking. She left school to work in the bomber factory during WWII. She attended beauty school and often spoke about the finger wave style which was a big thing then. In 1952 she moved to Lansing and began her family. After raising her family, she went back to school and earned her diploma. She went on to LCC and was the first recipient of the displaced homemakers scholarship through the Women’s Resource Center and LCC. After graduation, May worked for the State of Michigan as an accountant until her retirement in 1997.
May was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Anna Plaggemars; her daughters, Patricia Ann and Pamela Sue; her granddaughter, Tiffany Letitia Gregoire and her dog, Heidi.
May will be dearly missed by her daughters, Joan, Colleen, Sue Ann, Bridget and Erin; her sons, Hughie, Sean, Seamus, Colin and Dermot. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren and forty three great-grandchildren.
May loved God, her family and her dogs, Lily and LittleBit. She was able to stay in her home as promised for 21 years until she was admitted to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan on Friday, April 13, 2018 because of the loving care given by her daughter, Erin.
May’s family would like to thank everyone for the love and support during this time.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 23, 2018, 11:00 a.m., Trinity Church, 3355 Dunckel Road, Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 22, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, MI.
