I am really sorry to hear about Mel's passing.  I came to know him while volunteering at Whitehills in 2008.  I enjoyed playing "Skip-Bo" with him and talking about MSU sports.  I very much enjoyed spending time with him.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I remember Mel in the music department at Mt. Hope Church in the early 1990's.  He also was at Whitehills during the same time my mother was there.  He was a very nice man.  He will be missed.

We, too, have lots of memories of good times with Mel, Gloria, and the family from our Columbia Rd. Church days.  Our hearts go out to you in your loss.  We pray that you'll find comfort in God's love and goodness.

My husband David and I were surprised and saddened to hear of Mel's passing today while we were attending a memorial service for my Dad, Steve, who was Mel's roommate for the past four years.  The room seemed so empty -- not full of life when the two men were in there together enjoying sporting events on TV.  Mel was a wonderful man and we enjoyed visiting him as much as we did our Dad.  He always had a smile on his face and a new joke for us.  Our condolences go out to Mel's family.  He and Steve are in a better place, and hopefully they'll be watching more games together.

I'm so sorry for your loss Mel was a blessing to care for he was a carring and loving man who never let the worst get him down. He was always joking and smiling even when he wasn't having the best of day. He will be missed but never forgotten. All my prayers go out to the family

Mel was a blessing to so many people including us! He loved to laugh and make people laugh. Our favorite memory was him delivering his famous adlib in his appearances as a member of the 5 E's: "Have you had enough or are you thirsting for more!?!" But he  was also a most caring person who loved his wife and family deeply. We will never forget seeing such a strong example of a love of a man for his wife as when we walked with him and Gloria through her courageous struggle in her last days on this earth and the years since those dark days.
Mel and Gloria were among the very first people who welcomed our family with open arms and hearts to Lansing - a gesture we will remember always.  
Our prayer are with your family. We love you and pray that the comfort of the Holy Spirit will be real to you in your loss.

We haven't seen Mel in a long time, but will always remember his friendly soul.  We have fond memories of your family from Columbia Road Baptist Church.

We are so sorry to hear of Mel's passing.  He was a great friend to my mother when she was in Whitehills Health Care Center.  My husband took Mel golfing a couple of years ago and had a great time with him.  He surely was a nice man.  We will miss him.
