

Merle Ellen Mailo, 92, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease in Lansing, Michigan. She was born May 8, 1923 in Lansing, Michigan to Mahlon and Lillian (Hopkins) Hiatt. She worked as a waitress, then for Michigan Bell, and finally for the Fisher Body Plant for 36 years before retiring in 1986. Merle Ellen loved flowers, gardening her roses, going on long drives, dancing, and singing. She was friendly and outgoing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 16 years, Otto Mailo and daughter, Pamela Ramon. She is survived by her daughter, Tina (the late Richard) Slocum; her sons, Michael Austin and Brent Austin; her five grandchildren, including Charity Mailo; and one brother, John (Marilynn) Hiatt. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 2:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
