Dear Evelyn, Orval and I are thankful that we were able to attend Mickey's visitation and funeral service.  He was beautifully honored, as well he should have been.  It was 25+ years ago, yet I can still "see" the first time Dennis walked in our front door with Patti.  My maternal family includes many an Italian by marriage; little did I know at that time that the tradition would continue!  From the first time we walked into your home, we felt welcomed and WELL FED!  Father Steve's extension of his left arm yesterday, in demonstration of Mickey's immediate desire to touch his guests, was SO spot on.  We will miss that gesture, and ALL that Mickey was.  We're holding you in our hearts, and hope that the love of your family and friends will ease your loss and heartache.

  Mickey hired me in 1981 as a bus boy, I worked in the rest. bus. for 30yrs .  He was a great guy and I'll miss him calling me "tiger"     Christopher DeMarco  (lansing Mi.)

I am just  one of many cousins who loved Mickey.  He was like an idol to me as a teenager when he went into the Marine Corp.  Time and distance doesn't matter, he will always be loved and remembered.  Lucille

Mom, I know the past few weeks have been difficult for you.  Take peace and hope that Dad is resting comfortably with the angels.  I loved him for the man he was; Marine Korean War Veteran (being a forward artillery observer was a difficult and dangerous job), hard worker(he was always busying himself with odd jobs around the house, yard and cooking), but most of all he was a family man.  Mickey loved his family more than anything on this earth.  He was very proud of Michael, Suzanne, Lennie and Patty.  And when the grandchildren began to come along, it was as if he got to live a second childhood right along with them.  He was a teacher, a mentor, playmate and awesome grandpa.  I believe if he ever authored a book entitled, "How to be a Wonderful Grandfather", it would have been a best seller!  He lived life the way in which it was supposed to be lived; loving his wife, his children and his grandchildren.  When I joined your beautiful family, I was made to feel that I was every bit a part of it.  He always made me feel like his son.  I am honored to be your son-in-law, and to have had the wonderful opportunity to know and love Mickey.   It must have been difficult to allow Suzanne to leave the home she always knew and loved to travel to her new home all the way to Kansas.  We cherished the many phone calls and the visits back to Lansing to get caught up, the road trips up north to see Sutton's Bay, a place that you dearly loved, the Ozark Mountains  of Arkansas and the trip back to Syracuse, NY for the mini-reunion and what came to known as the "Cooney Express". I hope that in the days to come, you are comforted knowing how much Mickey loved you and his family, and that he is free of pain and in the presence of God.  Prayers and love to you, Mark.
