

Paul C. Souder Lansing, MI Age 88, passed away November 29, 2009 at his home. Born 12-2-1920 at Greencastle, Indiana. Paul in 1935 thru 1941 won various junior tennis tournaments in the Midwest 1941 Captain, #1 player on DePauw?s undefeated tennis team, which defeated several Big Ten teams. 1990 elected to DePauw Athletic Hall of Fame as captain of that team. 1995 elected again to DePauw Athletic Hall of Fame as member of that team 1941 graduated as a Rector Scholar from DePauw University. World War II, U.S. Navy 1942 to 1946, retiring as Lieutenant Commander, serving 2 years in South Pacific. In 1943, Paul graduated from Harvard University School of Business Administration while in U.S. Navy. In 1951, graduated from Graduate School of Banking, Rutgers University. In 1946, Paul became employed with Michigan National Bank, and was elected president 1972, retired as Chairman of the Board in 1985. Paul served as Director of Auto Owners Insurance Company and 22 other corporations. He authored the book, Financing Oil Production in Michigan in 1951. Paul had memberships with: Robert Morris Associates (Honorary Life Member), Independent Petroleum Association of America, Michigan Oil and Gas Association, Saginaw Club, Saginaw Country Club, Otsego Ski Club, and honorary life member of the Country Club of Lansing. Paul was President of Board of Trustees of Jefferson Avenue Methodist Church, The Greater Michigan Foundation, Saginaw Junior Achievement, Methodist Men?s Club, Saginaw Art Museum, Saginaw Jr. Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary Club of Saginaw. Paul was Chairman of Michigan Colleges Foundation - Tri County Area, State Chairman ?Michigan Week? in 1975, Co-Chairman of Fund Development to start Saginaw Valley State University, and Committee to start Delta Community College. Paul was Director of Greater Saginaw Chamber of Commerce; Trustee and Executive Committee of Saginaw General Hospital; Vice-President and Executive Committee of Saginaw United Way; Director Woldumar Nature Center; State Research Chairman of Robert Morris Associates the Featured Photographer in ?Michigan Wildlife in Art Exhibition? in 1980; Photographs published in various magazines; Chairman, Red Cross Fund Drive; Distinguished Service Award, Saginaw?s Outstanding Citizen; Banking Representive on President Eisenhower?s U.S. Cultural Exchange Delegation in Europe and Russia in 1959; Trustee, M.S.U. Development Fund; Trustee, Michigan Wildlife Foundation; Director, Saginaw Symphony Association; and Vice-President and Director , Frank N. Anderson Foundation. Paul is survived by his wife, Doris ?Dorrie? (Elliott) Souder; children, Douglas (Barb) Souder of Grass Lake, MI, and Julie (Tim) Kuyt of Spring Lake, MI; grandchildren, Anne (Scott) Montgomery of Allendale, MI, Lynn (Fred) McNutt of Zanesville, Ohio, Jodi Kuyt of Allendale, MI, Elizabeth (Matt) Ziemke of Jackson, MI, Amanda Souder of Zanesville, Ohio; and 7 great-grandchildren.
