Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the age of 89 with her loving family by her side. Phyllis was born March 20, 1923 in Cedar Springs, MI the daughter of the late Cardinal and Hazel (Chappell) Bradley. She was preceded in death by her father, Cardinal Bradley; her parents, Hazel and Herb Smith; her beloved husband of 67 years, Myron (Mike) Smith; and her brother, Carlton Bradley. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, Nick (Prudy) Smith, Dan (Nancy) Smith, Fred (Elise) Smith; grandchildren, Jenni Smith, Jeff (Gina) Smith, John, Raymond and Kenneth Smith; great grandchildren, Rachael Hall and Jossilyn Smith; brother, Edwin Smith; and sister, Mary Aurich. Phyllis graduated from Cedar Springs High School in 1941 where she was selected to the Red Flannel Celebration Court as a senior. She met the love of her life, Mike Smith, at Skinners Drug Store in Cedar Springs. They were married on April 22, 1944 in San Francisco and enjoyed 67 years together. Phyllis was a very devoted wife and mother. She never failed in putting her family before herself, putting her own needs aside in order to provide for her family. She spent much of her time attending sporting events in support of her boys. Phyllis was a longtime member of the Lansing Central Free Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She was also a people person which fit in very well at church when she was greeting new people serving as chairman of the Social Committee and setting up various social events. Phyllis was also an avid reader and enjoyed bible studies. Her greatest joy was the times she spent with her family and friends as they were her life. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Central Free Methodist Church, 828 N. Washington Ave., Lansing. The family will receive friends from 2:00 -4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, MI and one hour prior to service at the church. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Cedar Springs, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Central Free Methodist Church in memory of Phyllis. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes.
