Ray Ellis Powers

Ray was born on June 14, 1933 in Sharon, TN, the son of Charlie Brown and Lois Mae Powers. Ray married his love, Bettye Cavender on July 2, 1955 in Mississippi.

Ray was the owner and operator of Powers Motors Inc and A&A Rent-A-Ride Inc.. In his free time, he loved to ride his golf cart and gardening. Most of all, he loved people. Ray was a people person. He loved socializing, and he loved his children and grandchildren more than anything.

Ray is survived by his children, Susan (Patrick) Welsh, Staci (DJ) Powers, Sheri Kay Powers; grandchildren, Joshua (Nicole) Powers, Ryan (Megan) Welsh, Taylor Rae Powers; great-grandchildren, Madison, Makenzie, Ireland, and Meadow; great-grandcat, Pretty Boy; and his siblings, Bobby Dale (Doris) Powers and Sue (Maurice) Daman.

Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Bettye; daughter, Shana Lyn; parents, Charlie Brown and Mama Powers; and brothers, Pleas, Dub, LT, Johnnie, Burnie, Dennis, Cotton, Sherman, his identical twin Gay, and Jimmy.

A visitation for Ray will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 7, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with an hour prior visitation. A committal service will follow the funeral service at Windsor Township Cemetery in Dimondale.
