Raymond Charles Lincolnhol was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan on September 21, 1938 to Raymond P. Lincolnhol and Viola M. Anderson. Ray entered eternal life on Monday, November 6, 2023. Raymond married Patricia McKenna at St. Therese Church on January 31, 1959. Ray was a 1956 graduate of Resurrection High School, studied at Michigan State University, and received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Western Michigan University. Ray was a faithful and active member of St. Gerard Church. Ray enjoyed fishing, his raspberry patch, chocolate covered peanuts, camping, traveling and woodworking.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bonnie Hayhoe, and his daughter Sarah Jeanne Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Patricia “Patsy”, sharing 64 years of marriage, and his children, Tim (Debra), Ann (Pat) Rodenbeck, Sue (Bill) Klco, Therese (James) Edgett, Mary (Doug) Zoeller, Ray (Jessica), Son-in-law Drew (Sarah) Nelson, Michael (Lori). He is also survived by his siblings, John (Kelly), JoAnn Quigley, Paul (Dorothy), and brother-in-law, Ron Hayhoe, and sisters-in-law, Jeanne O'Brien, Karen (Hank) Jallos, Kris (David) Poulson; brothers-in-law, Brian (Donna) McKenna and Kevin (Brenda) McKenna.
Ray held a special place in his heart for his 25 grandchildren (Matt, Zach, Josie, Caitlin, Paddy, Shannon, Daniel, Megan, David, Mara, Rachel, Jimmy, Leah, Emily, Andy, Stacy, Anna, Charlie, Lainie, Henry, Maya, Abby, Madden, Liam, Molly) and 13 great grandchildren (McKenna, Colin, Kelly, Bonnie, Conor, Joseph, Samson, Sarah, Will, Charles, Clara, Francis, Sadie). Two more great grandchildren are expected soon.
Through his journey, Ray was prayerfully surrounded by a large and loving family (from early on a large loving family was a life’s mission for Ray and his high school sweetheart, Patsy). Even through the worst of his extended illness, his loving self and care for others was a light radiating from within so that you could feel its warmth. Learning his moral compass from his father and caring for others from his mother, set the course for his meaningful and love-filled life that continues to generations of Lincolnhols and those fortunate to have crossed his path in life.
Ray was a teacher, counselor, and coach during his 42 years in education. Whether you knew him as husband, brother, father, grandpa, uncle, teacher, coach, counselor, coworker, neighbor, friend or church member, his sincere attributes of being a focused and caring listener created trusting relationships that helped others to be better people. A trusted and just man; you could count on his integrity. His faith was a solid foundation and rock for Ray, and despite his loss of words near the end, he could still recite daily prayers with Patricia without missing a beat.
Ray was known for his sense of humor. His chuckle after a joke or a pun, or his famous Gotcha, by pointing to a non-existent drip on the shirt with a nose boink to follow, or while beating you in a game of hand slap, he made a quick connection with others and put all at ease.
