

Holt, MI
Born January 4, 1913 in Ionia, the son to the late Verne and Lena (Hunt) Snyder, died June 5, 2012 at the age of 99. The family moved to Cadillac where he grew up. He then graduated from the College of Architecture at the University of Michigan. Dick’s professional employment started as a Draftsman for the Warren Holmes Co., Architects & Engineers in Lansing. He became a registered architect in 1939. From 1943 to 1946 Dick served in the U.S. Army in an anti-aircraft artillery battery in England, France and Germany. Upon his return to the Holmes Company, he became a principal and practiced until retiring in 1978. Dick married Dorothy L. Brown of Charlotte, Michigan in 1947. They made their home in Lansing, enjoyed many travels abroad and in this country and finally moved to Great Lakes Christian Home in Holt in 1995. Dick was a member of the First Baptist Church (now Christ Community Church), Lansing Exchange Club and the American Institute of Architects. He was predeceased by Dorothy in 2007, and is survived by nieces Barbara (Henry) Eckfeld of Rochester, Michigan and Nancy D. Ort of Holt, and their families and by nephew Phillip H. Miller of Lansing. At Dick’s request there will be no visitation or memorial service after cremation. Interment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
