Susan Ann Howard

She was a graduate of Highland Park High School, Michigan State University; where she was secretary of her senior class, and Wayne State University Law School. She started her career as the first female attorney for the city of Lansing and later worked for many years as a Referee for Ingham County Friends of the Court. She was also an adjunct professor of family law at Cooley Law School and a guest lecturer on the subject at Western Ontario University. In 2018 she was honored by the Michigan Bar Association for 50 years of membership.

While at MSU she was quoted as saying “When I’m busy, I get better grades” and she kept that as a life mantra and was active in many activities including P.E.O. and the Lansing Women’s Club.

An excellent cook, Susan enjoyed creating wonderful dinners for her friends and family. Her love of travel took her on an eleven-month trip around the world shortly after graduation and continued throughout her life. A fond memory of her niece and nephew was being introduced to France, which was her favorite destination, by Aunt Sue. Susan loved live theatre and opera and was a voracious reader. She enjoyed spending time with a book and her cat Margarine while the Tiger’s game was on the TV.

Susan had a life well lived and will be missed by her family and friends.
