Susan was born on April 7, 1945, in Trenton, Michigan, to Maurice “Pete” and Lois Nugent. Affectionately known as “Suzy” or “Sue,” she was raised in Southgate, Michigan, where she graduated from Southgate High School. In October 1966, Susan married Jack Keilholtz. She later married David Young in September of 1990.
Susan eventually made her home in Alma, Michigan, where she worked as a paraprofessional for Alma Public Schools. After retirement, she moved to Lansing, Michigan, to be closer to family. She was known for her outgoing personality and ability to connect with the people around her. In her free time, Susan enjoyed reading and crocheting.
Susan will be lovingly remembered by her children, Stephen Keilholtz of Breckenridge, Colorado; Wendy Brown of Lansing, Michigan; and stepson, Andy (Lindsay) Young of Alma, Michigan; granddaughter, Stephanie Brown of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; and siblings, Kay McKay of Indiana and Ann York of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Keilholtz; stepdaughter, Linnzi Young; son-in-law, Jim Brown; and her parents, Maurice and Lois Nugent.
A memorial service for Susan will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 12:00 PM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at St John's Episcopal Church, 201 W Shepherd St., Charlotte, MI 48813, with the Reverend Wendy Brown officiating. Following the service, there will be a luncheon at the church.
