Teri was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Constance May and Janet Nelson; brothers Ronald, Gary, Thorwald and Leland Schimberg.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories her brother Arnold “Bill” Schimberg and sisters Joyce Walker and Carol Stansbury, daughters Michele (Ty Elowski) Schimberg, Gina (John) Harmeyer; grandchildren Tony (Melissa Harte) Richey, Brian (Elysse Richardson) Plesscher, Eric, Morgan and Alli Harmeyer. She also leaves behind great grandchildren Madison and Neveah Harte, Bruce Richey, and Mila Richardson-Plesscher, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Teri wore many hats during her time with us. She was a long-time State of Michigan employee, retiring in 1997/1998. Although she retired from the state, this did not mean she was done working. She remained retired for one week, when she started working for Dart Container. She then moved on to work in the Treasurer’s office at Delhi Township for several years. And, finally, she worked for at least 10 years with Tri-County Emergency Medical Control Authority, where she finally truly retired.
Anyone who knew Teri knew her favorite hat was that of being a horse and hobby farm owner. Teri worked tirelessly to realize her goal of owning a horse and later her own property where she could have her horses at home with her. She designed her own home to be built so she could see her beloved horses from nearly every window in her home. Teri also loved all of her barn cats, and she named just about all of her kitties over the years.
Teri loved her Planet Fitness friends and spoke of them frequently. She was a long-time member, and the gym was a part of almost every day for Teri. She formed many new friendships and rekindled old friendships. She spoke of her “gym friends” frequently.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be made in Teri’s name to MSU Friends of Horse Teaching and Research Center (please find link below).
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to our Heart to Heart Hospice team, Autumn, Kristen, Hannah, Hayley, Jenny, Mackenzie, Megan, Linda, Sydney, and Haleigh. This team of wonderful people went above and beyond to ensure the entire family had what they needed, and the care they provided Teri was unparalleled. The family will be forever grateful.
Teri will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, and a private life celebration to be held at a later date.
