David:

I am SO sorry to hear about your dad. I have so many great memories of Mr. Madill when we were growing up and I was hanging out with you at your house or at Higgins (which seemed like all the time, right?). He always had a great story to tell us, or a really bad joke 🙂 I’ll always remember whenever he got home from work and pulled in the driveway in his Olds and he’d say “It’s....the Waterman!” I also remember how much he loved your mom, always showing her affection. Back then I thought it was weird. Over the years I came to realize how amazing they were together, and how much they loved eachother and all you Madill boys. Awesome dude all around! Deepest condolences from all of us here in the Waterman house. We will see you on the 30th. Take care of yourself buddy, love you man!

It seems like it’s been forever since I saw Tom and my other cousins in the Madill clan. Now I’ve waited too long because it will be forever before I see Tom again.

I’m glad to see Mike posting reference to that joke. OMG, every time I heard Tom tell it, my entire body convulsed in laughter. He told that joke--all jokes-- like the maestro he always was.

I find myself now contemplating “rest in peace.” Tom always appeared to me to be at peace. His love of family, friends, fun, and cars (don’t forget cars) gave him an aura of calm peacefulness. That and a little shot of wildness was Tom, and he made everybody around him feel wildly at peace, too.

Peace to Tom.

Bryce, Craig & David, & families, we were saddened to hear of your dads passing. Our hearts go out to all of you. We loved having him as part of the "Holben" family, and he fit right in the moment your dad & mom were married. Even after your moms passing, he continued to join us at reunions and other events.

Fondly,

Lyle & Karen (Holben) VanHouten
