

Virgil C. Dunckel of Lansing, MI August 29, 1923 - December 18, 2015. Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, joined his wife in heaven on December 18, 2015, peacefully at home surrounded by family at the age of 92. The son of Ora and Pauline Dunckel, was born August 29, 1923 in Lansing, Michigan. He was a lifetime resident of Lansing and a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School. He served our country in World War II in 1943 in the US Army Air Force. In 1944, he married Louise Adams and they would spend the next 68 years together, until her passing in 2012. He retired from Anchor Motor Freight in 1982. He is survived by his four children, Creig of Dallas, TX; Ronald (Barb) of Dallas, TX; Gary (Mary) Dunckel of Laingsburg, MI; and Joan Dunckel (Gary) Johnson of Holt, MI; seven grandchildren, Denise Dunckel of Washington DC; Darren Dunckel of Los Angeles, CA; Justin (Stephanie) Dunckel of Huntington Woods, MI; Erin (Paul) Lalone of Wyoming, MI; Noelle Dunckel of Indianapolis, IN; Alexis (Mitch) Woodruff of Mason, MI; and Brandon Johnson of Lansing, MI; and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by special friends and neighbors Susan Schaefer and Fayyaz Hussein. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Dunckel; sister, Alice Weeks, daughter-in-law, Priscilla Dunckel; and his wife, Louise. Throughout his 92 years, Virg enjoyed singing, playing golf, reading and traveling. He enjoyed telling stories of his most memorable trips, such as his anniversary trip to Hawaii with Louise and his trip to the WWII Memorial that he recently shared with his daughter and several of his granddaughters. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed a game on television and loved going to Tiger Stadium and Comerica Park to watch them play. He attended Mount Hope Presbyterian Church for many years. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11am at Mount Hope Presbyterian Church, 301 W. Jolly Rd., Lansing. The family will receive friends Monday, December 21, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Mount Hope Presbyterian Church and the Capital Area Humane Society at 7095 W. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48906.
