Virginia Simon

Virginia “Ginny” Simon age 88, passed away on August 23, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 30, 1930 to Simon and Rosie Rademacher in Westphalia, MI. Ginny was married to her loving husband of 57 years, Urban “Gib” Simon who was often known to say, “he had married the prettiest girl in Westphalia.” They had five children and Ginny played the role of loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister to her family who will miss her dearly.

Ginny was known for her sparkling bright blue eyes, sassy quips, chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, and card skills that kept all of us on our toes. Ginny gifted her family a lifetime of magical holiday memories and traditions that will continue on in her memory. She had an incredible faith in God and was a member of St. Gerard Church - where she was a charter member. She was a volunteer at St. Lawrence Hospital, and loved spending her time with friends and family. She had a passion for the golf course (hitting a hole in one!) and around the card table (beating everyone in bridge, euchre and gin!).

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Carol Ann, and seven of her siblings. Surviving are her four children, Mary (Kelly) Cahill, Kate Simon, Bruce (Julie) Simon, and Jim (Helen) Simon; grandchildren, Gabe (Amy), Nathan, Ben (Linsey), Aaron (Larissa), Leah (Matt), Meagann, Andrea (Peter), Katie (Brittany), Kyle, Austin, and Derek; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther Brown.

Funeral Mass is 1:30 PM Monday, August 27, 2018 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, Lansing with Father Vincent Richardson officiating. Visitation is Sunday 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Michigan or the American Heart Association. The family is being served by Tiffany Funeral Home.
